Welcome to NH3 Car



This web log is designed to keep you up to date on the progress of the NH3 Car now speeding across America. OK, well it is really a truck, but it could just as easily be a car in the future. Casey Stack has been asked to be the spokesman for a small group of engineer's and inventors from the University of Michigan. Please check back often for updated information as this project gain's momentum.



The Goal

To demonstrate the simple practicality of running gasoline vehicles on ammonia as an alternative automobile fuel.

ok matt always told me you where a really smart guy but this is over the top. I had not even looked at this one. How do you prevent the formation on NOx?

Hi Marc:
Your question is a good one. One might expect an engine fueled by primarily ammonia to produce excessive NOx, it does not! The mix of ammonia and gasoline is held closely to stoichiometric in the burning process and therefore the products of combustion are handled with success by the catalytic converter in the general manner.

It's December 7th, but the latest news on this site appears to be from August. Is the project still going? Is the vehicle still touring around?

No. The car toured in August. And has now been returned to Michigan.
